Modi College Chess Player Secures 2nd Position (Team) in North Zone Inter-University Chess (Men) Championship

Representing the Punjabi University, Patiala chess team, Uday Pratap Bawa, a student of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, played a key role in securing the runners-up position (Team) in the North Zone Inter-University Chess (Men) Championship, held at Om Sterling Global University, Hisar, from February 20-23, 2025. The Punjabi University team accumulated 12 out of 14 points across seven rounds, finishing in second place. Delhi University secured first position with 14 points in this championship.
Uday Pratap, the captain of Modi College Chess Team, had earlier led his team to 2nd position in the Punjabi University Inter-College Chess Championship, held at MGC, Fatehgarh Sahib, on February 4-5, 2025. His outstanding performance earned him a place in the Punjabi University Chess Team through the selection trials conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala.
To recognize this remarkable achievement, Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Principal, and Dr. Sumeet Kumar, Dean Sports, honoured Uday Pratap at the college. The Principal also commended the dedicated efforts of the teachers-in-charge of sports activities—Dr. Nishan Singh (Head, Dept. of Physical Education), Dr. Harneet Singh, and Ms. Mandeep Kaur. Additionally, he appreciated the contribution of Sh. Vinod Sharma, Chess Team Coach, for mentoring and guiding Uday Pratap towards this success.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੀ ਚੈਸ ਟੀਮ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਉਦਯ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਬਾਵਾ ਨੇ 20 ਤੋਂ 23 ਫਰਵਰੀ, 2025 ਤੱਕ ਓਮ ਸਟਰਲਿੰਗ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਹਿਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਉੱਤਰ ਜ਼ੋਨ ਇੰਟਰ-ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚੈਸ (ਪੁਰਸ਼) ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ‘ਚ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ (ਟੀਮ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਚੈਸ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ 14 ‘ਚੋਂ 12 ਅੰਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਰਨਰ-ਅੱਪ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਦਕਿ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ 14 ਅੰਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਜੇਤਾ ਬਣੀ।
ਉਦਯ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਚੈਸ ਟੀਮ ਦੇ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ 4-5 ਫਰਵਰੀ, 2025 ਨੂੰ ਐਮ.ਜੀ.ਸੀ., ਫਤਹਿਗੜ੍ਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਇੰਟਰ-ਕਾਲਜ ਚੈਸ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ‘ਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਚੋਣ ਪਰੀਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚੈਸ ਟੀਮ ‘ਚ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਇਸ ਉਲਲੇਖਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਯਲ (ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ) ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਸੁਮੀਤ ਕੁਮਾਰ (ਡੀਨ, ਸਪੋਰਟਸ) ਨੇ ਉਦਯ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ-ਸਨਮਾਨ ਦਿਤਾ। ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਨੇ ਕਾਲਜ ‘ਚ ਖੇਡ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ—ਡਾ. ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ (ਮੁਖੀ, ਵਿਭਾਗ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ), ਡਾ. ਹਰਨੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਅਤੇ ਮਿਸ ਮੰਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਚੈਸ ਟੀਮ ਕੋਚ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਵਿਨੋਦ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਚਿੰਗ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਾਹਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਮਲਤਾਨੀ ਮਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਗੌਰਵ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ‘ਚ ਉਤਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
