A seven day NSS Camp was organized at M. M. Modi College Patiala to commemorate the golden jubilee year celebration of NSS. In the concluding ceremony, Sh. C. S. Talwar (IAS, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab) graced the occasion as honourable chief guest and Dr. Paramvir Singh (NSS Programme Coordinator, Punjabi University, Patiala) as the guest of honour. Shri Talwar, while addressing the volunteers, stated that they should aim for righteous and highly admired people like Swami Vivekananda as their role models who proclaimed that only observant and patriotic youth can play a revolutionary role in building and developing a society and a nation.
In order to observe the momentous occasion of ‘International Day of the Book’ M M Modi College, Patiala today formally released a book comprising a selection of exclusive book appraisals entitled ‘Ruminations’. The book was released by Mr. Arpit Gupta, an alumnus of the Modi College, who has cracked Civil Services Exam recently. The guest of honour on this book release was Sh. Ajaiveer Singh Sarao, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Punjab.
M M Modi College, Patiala organized two functions to celebrate its Golden Jubilee Year here today. Sh. Brahm Mohindra, Honourable Cabinet Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Punjab was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Sh. K. K. Sharma, Chairman, PRTC, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singla, Information Commissioner Punjab, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs, Punjabi University, Patiala and Prof. Kulbir Singh Dhillon, Dean, College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala were the Guests of Honour. Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the guests and presented brief profile of the college spread over last 50 years. He said that the achievements of the alumni make the college proud and is an established criterion to judge the performance of an educational institution. Seth S. K. Modi, Chairman, Managing Committee of the College, Sh. Tarun Modi, Vice Chairman and Mrs. Rani Modi, Prof. Surindra Lal and Col. Karaminder Singh, Members of the Managing Committee, Mrs. Shivani Modi presented bouquet to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. The Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Members of the Managing Committee and Principal of the College released the souvenir prepared by the college covering memorable moments of last 50 years. Sh. Brahm Mohindra Ji appreciated the laudable achievements of the College and announced a grant of Rs. 5 lac for the academic development of the college. He also inaugurated the exhibition organised by the Fashion Designing and Technology Department of the college. Sh. K. K. Sharma recalled the days when he was first president of the Student Union of the College and spoke about the role teacher played in the development of his personality. Dr. Pawan Kumar Singla is not only an alumnus of the college; he was on the faculty of this college for almost 25 years. He congratulated the college for holding this function and suggested to make the alumni more active. Dr. Kulbir Singh Dhillon talked about the discipline and academic environment of the college during the time when he joined this college immediately after completing his schooling. Dr. Gurwinder Singh, Registrar, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala and Prof. Bawa Singh, Former Vice Chairman, Minority Commission of India also joined the celebrations.
A large number of well placed members of the alumni joined the function and enjoyed being back in the college and tried to recall their old days, the anxieties and ambitions they had as young boys and girls. Former members of the staff also joined the function. The College felicitated all the members of the alumni and former members of the staff and presented a copy of souvenir and a memento designed particularly for Golden Jubilee function. Some members of the alumni also shared their experiences and contribution of the college made in their career.
Prof. Nirmal Singh presented vote of thanks and recalled the value system created by the former Principals and staff members for making this college capable of being recognized among the top colleges of the region. Prof. (Mrs.) Baljinder Kaur, Prof. (Mrs.) Shailendra Sidhu, Dr. Ajit Kumar and Dr. Ganesh Kumar Sethi conducted the stage. Mementoes were presented to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. The students of the college played active role in conduct of the function. NCC Cadets presented guard of honour to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. Giddha Team of the college gave excellent performance on the occasion.
