The Youth Red Cross Unit of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, organized an enlightening lecture on Say No to Single Use Plastic (SUP): A Step Towards a Greener Planet to observe the World Environmental Health Day-2025 to spread awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable living practices. The program highlighted the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly habits and move towards a greener planet.
Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Principal of the College, emphasized that conserving the environment for a sustainable future is the need of the hour. He pointed out that issues like climate change, excessive plastic use, and pollution are no longer distant concerns but immediate challenges that directly affect human health and well-being. He motivated the students to take up the responsibility of becoming change-makers by adopting small yet impactful measures in their daily lives. The event was also supported and encouraged by the Vice Principal of the college, Dr. Rajeev Sharma. He said that lecture was a valuable step in spreading awareness to reduce single use plastics.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Manish Sharma. In his thought-provoking presentation, Dr. Sharma elaborated on the harmful impacts of single-use plastics on biodiversity, soil health, water bodies, and ultimately on human society. He also explained how microplastics are increasingly finding their way into the food chain, posing severe health hazards. Stressing the importance of sustainable alternatives, he encouraged students to opt for reusable bags, eco-friendly packaging, and biodegradable materials. His interactive lecture engaged the audience, inspiring them to reflect on their own lifestyle choices and take practical steps toward reducing plastic dependency.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Heena Sachdeva under Youth Red Cross Unit of the College with an aim to inspire students to adopt sustainable habits such as reusing, recycling and reducing plastic use. Guidance and constant encouragement were provided by Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Controller of Examinations and Dean, Life Sciences. He appreciated the initiative and highlighted that such programs play a vital role in sensitizing young minds towards environmental challenges.

The lecture concluded with an interactive session in which students actively participated, asking questions and sharing their ideas about sustainable alternatives to plastic. The event left a strong impact, motivating the participants to become ambassadors of change in their surroundings.
