Preserving the book in the Digital Age: Multani Mal Modi College Commemorates ‘Modi Jayanti’ with Blood Donation Camp and Book Exhibition

Commemorating ‘Modi Jayanti’, the Post-Graduate Department of Punjabi at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, organised a special extension lecture on the” Digital Era and Book Culture”. The keynote address was delivered by distinguished scholar S. Jaswant Singh Zafar, Director, Language Department, Punjab. A Blood Donation Camp and Book Exhibition were also organized to remember the legacy of Modi College.
College Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal emphasized the imperishable value of literature, remarking that while information is instantly accessible in the digital age, the depth, critical thinking, and emotional resonance provided by book culture remain irreplaceable. He advised the students to include book reading in their daily routine for better understanding of the world.
The key note speaker was formally introduced by Dr. Veerpal Kaur, the head of Punjabi Department. She said that his books are the reflections of social reality and human conditions. She said that books are essential for understanding our society.
Sh. Jaswant Singh Zafar further inspired students to harmonize digital efficiency with an enduring commitment to reading. He said that the first book Rigved was written in Punjab and the largest edited religious text also belongs to Punjab known as shri. Guru Garanth Sahib. He said that knowledge will always be the centre of human civilization. He also emphasized upon the role of good teachers and books in shaping our environment and social consciousness.
In tandem with the lecture, the college inaugurated a two-day Book Fair 2026 (October 22–23) on campus under the theme “Celebrating the Joy of Reading, Knowledge & Imagination,” Inaugurated by Chief Guest S. Jaswant Singh Zafar alongside Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal, this featured a specialized Book Exhibition organized under the guidance of Dr. N. K. Modi Library Incharge Dr. Arvind Mittal. The exhibition showcased a curated collection of classic texts and contemporary literature aimed at fostering structured reflection, critical thinking, and lifelong reading habits among students.
Parallel to the academic celebrations, the college demonstrated its commitment to societal welfare by organizing a voluntary Blood Donation Camp in the Physics Lab. Driven by the noble ideal of ‘Khoondaan – Mahadaan’, the initiative was organized to address the critical shortage of blood supplies Jointly organised by the college’s NSS, NCC and Scouts and guides wings in collaboration with Red Ribbon club and the Blood Bank of Government Medical College, Patiala. The camp was officially inaugurated by the Chief Guest and Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal.
Welcoming the visiting medical team, Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal commended the altruistic spirit of the young donors, reaffirming that Modi College remains devoted to community welfare and public service. The clinical operations were expertly conducted by a medical team led by Dr. Aashna and the team with special contribution of Sh.sukhwinder Singh. Through the active participation of student volunteers and faculty guidance, the drive successfully culminated in the collection of fifty-six units of blood.
The organization and widespread participation for the camp were supervised by faculty leadership across different units, including the NSS team led by Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Dr. Devinder Singh, and Dr. Gagandeep Kaur; the NCC contingent guided by Flying Officer Dr. Sumeet Kumar, Dr. Rohit Sachdeva, and Dr. Nidhi Rani Gupta; and student volunteers from the Red Ribbon Club alongside the Bharat Scouts & Guides motivated by Dr. Rupinder Singh Dhillon and Dr. Veenu Jain operating under the banner “Give Blood, Save Lives, Be a Hero.”

‘ਮੋਦੀ ਜਯੰਤੀ’ ਦੀ ਨਿੱਘੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ-ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ “ਡਿਜ਼ੀਟਲ ਯੁੱਗ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ “ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਲੇਖਕ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਸ. ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜ਼ਫਰ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ, ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਖੂਨਦਾਨ ਕੈਂਪ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਵੀ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਡਿਜ਼ੀਟਲ ਯੁੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ, ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਕ ਸੋਚ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਵਨਾਤਮਕ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਬਦਲ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਸਮਝ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦੇ ਰੁਟੀਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਵੀਰਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ. ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜ਼ਫਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਥਿਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਬਿੰਬ ਹਨ।ਉਹ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਮਿੱਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਪੱਕ ਹਨ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆ ਸ. ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜ਼ਫਰ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਿਜ਼ੀਟਲ ਕੁਸ਼ਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਤੰਲਨ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਜ ਪ੍ਰੀਕਿਰਆ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ ‘ਰਿਗਵੇਦ’ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸੰਪਾਦਿਤ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸਭਿਅਤਾ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੰਗੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ‘ਤੇ ਵੀ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਸਟੇਜ-ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਣ ਡਾ.ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ, ਕਾਲਜ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਮੇਲਾ-2026 “ਸੈਲੀਬਰੇਟਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਜੌਏ ਆਫ ਰੀਡਿੰਗ, ਨੌਲਿਜ ਐਂਡ ਐਂਮੈਜੀਨੇਸ਼ਨ” ਥੀਮ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਐਸ. ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜ਼ਫਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਮੇਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਡਾ.ਕੇ.ਐੱਨ.ਮੋਦੀ ਲਾਇਬ੍ਰੇਰੀ ਦੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਡਾ. ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਮਿੱਤਲ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਕ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਦਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਕਲਾਸਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੁਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨਾਂਤਰ, ਕਾਲਜ ਨੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਵੈ-ਇੱਛਤ ਖੂਨਦਾਨ ਕੈਂਪ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਭਲਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕਤਿਾ।’ਖੂੰਨਦਾਨ – ਮਹਾਦਾਨ’ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਮ ਆਦਰਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਇਹ ਕੈਂਪ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਕੈਂਪ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ, ਐਨ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਕਾਊਟਸ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਈਡਜ਼ ਵਿੰਗਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰੈੱਡ ਰਿਬਨ ਕਲੱਬ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਬਲੱਡ ਬੈਂਕ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਕੈਂਪ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਡਾਕਟਰੀ ਟੀਮ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਦਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਭਲਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕੈਂਪ ਡਾ. ਆਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਟੀਮ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਚਾਲਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵਲੰਟੀਅਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਇਹ ਕੈਂਪ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ 56 ਯੂਨਿਟ ਖੂੰਨ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਇਹ ਕੈਂਪ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿੰਗਾਂ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਸੰਜੀਵ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਡਾ. ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਗਗਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਲੀ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ ਟੀਮ; ਫਲਾਇੰਗ ਅਫਸਰ ਡਾ. ਸੁਮੀਤ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਡਾ. ਰੋਹਿਤ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਨਿਧੀ ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਐਨ.ਸੀ.ਸੀ ਵਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਵੀਨੂ ਜੈਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਲੀ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਕਾਊਟਸ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਈਡਜ਼ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਰੈੱਡ ਰਿਬਨ ਕਲੱਬ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਤੇ ਵਲੰਟੀਅਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੋ “ਖੂਨ ਦਿਓ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀਆਂ ਬਚਾਓ, ਹੀਰੋ ਬਣੋ” ਦੇ ਬੈਨਰ ਹੇਠ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੋ ਸਕੀ।
