Literary Discussion on the Ideas and Sacrifice of Bhagat Singh and His Friends Organized by Multani Mal Modi College

The Post Graduate Department of Punjabi at Multani Mal Modi College organized an illuminating literary discussion titled “Ideas and Sacrifice: The Legacy of Bhagat Singh and His Friends.” This event was focused on engaging the college students to delve deep into the revolutionary thoughts and sacrifices of these iconic freedom fighters.
In the annals of India’s struggle for independence, Bhagat Singh stood as a luminary, not merely for his bravery but for his articulate critique of societal inequities. His poignant assertion, “Revolution is not a bed of roses. It is a struggle between the future and the past,” encapsulated his unwavering belief in transforming society through conscious and courageous action. This literary discussion endeavored to explore this rich tapestry of ideas, including his reflections on economic disparities, social justice, and communal harmony.
In a recent exhortation to the students, Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal passionately highlighted the imperative of engaging in nation-building and fostering the ideals of a democratic republic. He stated, “The sacrifices made by Bhagat Singh and his compatriots call upon us to recognize our roles as active citizens. Their profound commitment to justice and equality must inspire us to advocate for a society that thrives on mutual respect and shared progress.”
Further highlighting the significance of this discussion, Dr. Veerpal Kaur, Head of the Department of Punjabi, articulated the timeless relevance of Bhagat Singh’s ideas in addressing the socio-economic disparities that continued to plague society. She echoed Singh’s powerful words, “We must beware of needless innovations, particularly when guided by logic alone,” emphasizing the need for critical engagement with both tradition and modernity. “Bhagat Singh’s vision extended beyond mere political freedom; it encompassed a profound quest for social justice and communal harmony, which remained ever pertinent as we confronted today’s challenges.”
The event featured a poetic recitation by students Gurjant Singh, Maninder Kaur, Mehakpreet Kaur and 15 other students from various departments of Modi College, celebrating the literary legacy of Bhagat Singh and enhancing the overall ambiance of reflection and remembrance. The students experienced a vibrant exchange that deepened their understanding of these ideals and their relevance in contemporary India. The event included interactive discussions and an open forum, encouraging students to reflect upon and share their perspectives on the enduring legacy of Bhagat Singh and his fellow fighters.
In this event faculty members, including Dr. Harmohan Sharma, Dr. Rupinder Sharma, Prof. Jagdeep Kaur, Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Dr. Gurjant Singh, Dr. Talwinder Singh, Dr. Gurwinder Singh, and Dr. Kapil, were present to contribute their insights and share their reverence for this great revolutionary.
The programme was presided over by vice principal Prof. Jasbir Kaur and a vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Deepak Kumar. Dr. Davinder Singh reviewed the programme.

ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਉਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਇੱਕ ਸਹਿਤਕ ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਗੋਸਟੀ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਵਾਉਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਾਤਮਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।
ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਅਜੀਮ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਘਟਨਾਕਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਕਾਰੀ ਰਾਹਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਗਾਰਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ‘‘ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਭੂਤਕਾਲ ਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼’’ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਮਾਜਕ, ਯਥਾਰਥਕ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਲਖ ਹਕੀਕਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ।
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ’ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਜਸਵੀਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਰਾਮੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੁੱਟਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਵੀਰਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਤਕਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਪਾੜਾ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿਰਫ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਆਂ, ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਤੇ ਆਪਸੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਉਭਰਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਗੁਰਜੰਟ ਸਿੰਘ, ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਮਹਿਕਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ 15 ਹੋਰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ, ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਡਟਣ ਦਾ ਹੋਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਰਿਵਿਊ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ. ਦੀਪਕ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।
