            ‘National Youth Day’ was celebrated at the local M. M. Modi College by organising a State level Swami Vivekananda Youth Awards Presentation Ceremony. The function was organized in association with Swami Vivekananda Study Circle (Regd.). Sh. Chander Shekhar Talwar, retired IAS Officer and State Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab, Chandigarh delved deep on the life and ideas of Swami Vivekananda among an impressive gathering of about 300 students and teachers. He said that this day is an occasion to understand the problems and potentialities of the youth. He appealed to the young volunteers to inculcate the values of love and tolerance and contribute in the task of nation building.

            Dr. Khushvinder Kumar, Principal of the College welcomed the guests and shared many incidents from the life of Swami Vivekananda. He appreciated the NSS Programme Officers – Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Mrs. Jagdeep Kaur and Prof. Harmohan Sharma for their efforts in organising the event. He also thanked Swami Vivekananda Study Circle (Regd.) for organizing the State Level event at Modi College.

            22 young volunteers were honoured with the State Level Awards constituted by Swami Vivekananda Study Circle (Regd). Mr. Jasreman Singh (PAU, Ludhiana) was awarded the Gold Medal while Sharuti Bajaj (S. D. College, Chandigarh) and Narjeet Singh (PAU, Ludhiana) were felicitated with Silver Medal and Amrit Kaur (HRMV, Jalandhar), Ruchika Garg (PAU, Ludhiana), Bhawna Handa (RGC, Ludhiana) and Rajat Sharma (DAV College, Jalandhar) were given Bronze Medals. 15 other young volunteers were honoured with Swami Vivekananda Appreciation Awards.

            The Chief Guest Dr. Amita Rishi, Member, Punjab Public Service Commission congratulated the award winners and asked them to follow the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and work hard to achieve higher goals in life.

            Sh. Satish Soi, Joint Secretary of the Study Circle presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Rajeev Sharma conducted the stage. Dr. Khushvinder Kumar, Principal of the College was also felicitated by the Vivekananda Study Circle.
