International Mathematics Day ‘Mathematics for Everyone’ Celebrated at M. M. Modi College

The Post-graduate Department of Mathematics, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organized various activities like Quiz competition, Power point presentations, Poster making competition and scientific events under Ramanujan Society for celebration of the International Mathematics Day and for divulging into the magical world of math in professional field and in day-to-day life. The objective of this event was to prepare the students for developing logic, reason and scientific temperament. This year the theme of the day is ‘Mathematics for everyone’ which signifies that making Mathematics accessible and inclusive for everyone.
College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar who himself is a renowned mathematician also addressed the students and delivered a lecture on ‘Structure of Mathematics’ which is a fundamental constant and building block in calculations and in mathematical proofs. He said that creativity, originality, critical thinking and logical reasoning are core of mathematics and Mathematics can interpret the complex phenomenon of human problems.
Dr. Varun Jain, Head of Department of Mathematics welcomed the principal and presented a brief report about various events of this programme which were organized since last two weeks. He said that ‘Mathematics for Everyone’ is directly related to supporting science-based decision making in our lives. Our college is initiating a dialogue with the students to engage them with the current knowledge and ignite their passion and interest in the art and science of mathematics.
Under various competitions the Quiz competition was won by team of Kshamta and Hazel and team of Akashdeep and Sanjana stood second.
In the power point presentations Kirandeep Kaur, and Gagan (MSc First Year) stood first and Isha (BSc NM Part 3) won second position. The judges for this event were Prof. Chetna Gupta and Dr. Anu Bala.
In poster making competition Simran Kaur (BSc Third Year) stood first and Priti (BSc Maths Honours Third Year). The judges for this event were Prof. Rajvinder Kaur and Dr.Chetna Sharma.
The prizes were distributed by principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar and Dr. Varun Jain along with faculty members of Mathematics Department. 160 students participated in all the three events in this fest. The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Chetna Gupta.

ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਖੇ ‘ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਫਾਰ ਐਵਰੀ ਵੰਨ‘ ਥੀਮ ਤੇ ਅੰਤਰ–ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਦਿਵਸ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ
ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ-ਗਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ‘ਰਾਮਾਨੁਜਨ ਸੁਸਇਟੀ’ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੇ ਥੀਮ ‘ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਫਾਰ ਐਵਰੀ ਵੰਨ’ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਕੁਇੱਜ਼ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ, ਪਾਵਰ-ਪੁਆਇੰਟ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਤੇ ਪੋਸਟਰ ਮੇਕਿੰਗ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲਸ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਾਵਰ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਰਕ ਤੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਲੈਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਥੀਮ ‘ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਫਾਰ ਐਵਰੀ ਵੰਨ’ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਚਰਚਾ ਰਾਹੀ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਸਰਲ ਤੇ ਸੌਖਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।
ਇਸ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਇੱਕ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹਿਸਾਬਦਾਨ ਹਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ‘ਸਟਰਕਚਰ ਆਫ਼ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ’ ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਸਥਾਈ ਗੁਣਾਤਮਿਕ ਤੱਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਤਮਿਕ ਫਾਰਮੂਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਦੇ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਾਤਮਿਕਤਾ, ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਿਕ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਆ ਤੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਸੋਚ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਪੇਸ਼ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲ ਲੱਭੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਵਰੁਨ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਡਾ.ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੋ ਹਫਤਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੀਆ ਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਥੀਮ ‘ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਫਾਰ ਐਵਰੀ ਵੰਨ’ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਸੋਚ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਤਤਕਾਲੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਤੇ ਕਲਾਤਮਿਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਸਮਝਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਥੀਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕੁਇੱਜ਼ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਕੁਸ਼ਮਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਹੇਜ਼ਲ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਨਾ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ।ਪਾਵਰ ਪੁਆਇੰਟ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਕਿਰਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਤੇ ਗਗਨ (ਐੱਮ.ਐੱਸ.ਸੀ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਾਲ) ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਈਸ਼ਾ (ਬੀ.ਐੱਸ.ਸੀ ਭਾਗ ਤੀਜਾ) ਨੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ।ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੱਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਚੇਤਨਾ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਤੇ ਡਾ. ਅਨੂ ਬਾਲਾ ਨੇ ਨਿਭਾਈ।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੋਸਟਰ ਮੇਕਿੰਗ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੌਰ (ਬੀ.ਐੱਸ.ਸੀ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਾਲ) ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ (ਬੀ.ਐੱਸ.ਸੀ ਆਨਰਜ਼, ਤੀਜਾ ਸਾਲ) ਨੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੱਜਾ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ.ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਤੇ ਡਾ.ਚੇਤਨਾ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਨਿਭਾਈ।
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਵੰਡਣ ਦੀ ਰਸਮ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਤੇ ਡਾ. ਵਰੁਣ ਜੈਨ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਇਵੇਂਟਸ ਵਿੱਚ 160 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿੱਤਾ। ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਚੇਤਨਾ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਦਿਵਸ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੋ.ਚੇਤਨਾ ਗੁਪਤਾ, ਪ੍ਰੋ.ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਅਨੂ ਬਾਲਾ,ਡਾ. ਚੇਤਨਾ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਜਸਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਿਮਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਰਿਚਾ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਵਸੁਧਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਿਰ ਸਨ।
