College organized an educational visit to vermicomposting unit
An educational visit to Greenroot Organics (Vermicomposting Unit), Gurbax Colony, Patiala was organized for the students of the Department of Life Sciences, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala.
Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Principal of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, emphasized that such experiential learning activities form an integral part of the Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) introduced under the curriculum, aiming to equip students with practical knowledge and entrepreneurial competencies. Dr. Goyal highlighted that real-time exposure to organic waste management and vermicomposting technologies not only strengthens scientific understanding but also opens new avenues for green entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The educational tour was meticulously planned under the valuable guidance of Dr. Kuldeep Kumar. His constant encouragement and insightful suggestions provided direction in aligning the visit with the skill development objectives of the course.
The visit was led by Dr. Manish, the entire visit was planned by Dr. Heena Sachdeva, special efforts were contributed by Dr. Maninder, whose proactive engagement in arranging and confirming the site visit to Greenroot Organics played a crucial role in making the program successful. A total of 32 students visited the site.
At Greenroot Organics, students were introduced to the entire process of vermicomposting, including segregation of organic waste, preparation of vermibeds, inoculation with earthworms, maintenance of moisture and aeration, and harvesting of vermicompost. They also learned about its application as a biofertilizer and plant growth promoter.
The resource personnel Mr. Pulkit Aggarwal at Greenroot Organics provided detailed demonstrations and interacted with students about the commercial aspects of vermicomposting, including marketing, packaging, and quality control. The visit helped students gain hands-on exposure to organic farming practices, waste valorisation, and green entrepreneurship.
The tour concluded with an interactive discussion session where students shared their experiences and expressed gratitude to the faculty and management for providing such an enriching opportunity.
Overall, the visit to Greenroot Organics proved to be an inspiring and educational experience, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications and promoting an entrepreneurial mind-set among students.
