Arcadia Literary Society of Multani Mal Modi College Presents Fresco: A Celebration of World Poetry Day

In an elegant homage to the transformative power of verse, the Arcadia Society of the English Department at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, orchestrated a two-day literary festival, Fresco ‘26, on March 19th and 20th, 2026, in celebration of World Poetry Day. This year’s theme resonates profoundly within the fabric of our global community, articulating poetry’s capacity to foster understanding, empathy, and dialogue across diverse cultures. The festival resonated with a kaleidoscope of literary endeavours, welcoming a plethora of activities and competitions that enliven the spirit of creative expression.
In Fresco ‘26, Dr. Shivani Thakkar, Associate Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, joined as the Chief Guest.
In a thought-provoking address, college principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal articulated the relevance of poetry in our contemporary milieu, a time often characterized by social fragmentation and global upheaval. He said that embracing the creativity and emotional nuances inherent in poetic expression not only nurtures a sense of community and belonging but also serves as a beacon of hope and cultural continuity.
The students engaged in the creative process of the beautiful art of Calligraphy, Treasure Hunt, Picture Composition, Poem Writing, Sketching, Guess the Song, Literary Quiz, Extempore, Documentary Film Making and also enacted a play.
Dr. Harleen Kaur introduced the Chief Guest and said that by venerating the art of poetry, we celebrate not only individual voices but also the collective heritage that shapes our shared human experience, inspiring future generations to cultivate a profound appreciation for the written word.
Dr. Shivani enriched the discourse with her insightful reflections on the pivotal role of literary expression in navigating the complexities of modern life. She motivated the students to engage with the beautiful world of art and literature for a successful life.
In Calligraphy, Diljeet kaur stood first and Amandeep won the second position. In Poetry writing competition, first position was won by Taniya Kohli and second position by Devansh Tiwari. In Picture Composition, Taniya Kohli won the first position and Harsimran Kaur stood second. In Treasure Hunt, the first position was won by the team of Renuka, Yashu, Nidhi, and Shreya Tripathi. In the competition of Sketching, the first position was won by Khushleen Kaur Kamboj and Mukti bagged the second position.
In the ‘Guess the song’ competition, Amandeep, Mukti, and Namhay Kapoor stood first, and in Extempore, first position was won by Ekampreet Kaur.
In the event Documentary Film Making competition, the students showcased their filmmaking skills on the theme of “Fragmented Minds: Reading in the Era of Algorithms’ in which the team of Amandeep, Mukti, Namhey, Jagpat Narayan and Ekampreet stood first.
The play ‘The Dilemma of Hamlet’ was beautifully enacted by the students and directed by Prof. Gaganpreet Kaur which explored the themes of love, trust, betrayal and revenge.
The prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of these competitions at the end of the programme. The programme was beautifully coordinated and organized by Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Prof. Harpreet Singh, Prof. Gaganpreet Kaur, Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. Sukhpal Sharma, Dr. Maninder Kaur, Prof. Ravinder Singh Bhangoo and Prof. Anita.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Vaneet Kaur, Head, Department of English.

ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਆਰਕੇਡੀਆ ਲਿਟਰੇਰੀ ਸੋਸਾਇਟੀ ਵ’ਲੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਦਿਵਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਦੁੋਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਸਮਾਗਮ ‘ਫਰੈਸਕੋ’ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿ’ਚ ਮਨੁ’ਖੀ ਜੀਵਣ ਵਿ’ਚ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰਿਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਵ’ਖੁਵ’ਖ ਤਰਾਂ੍ਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਲਾਤਮਿਕ ਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਸਰਗਰਮੀਆਂ ਕਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਵਿ’ਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹੁਪੂਰਵਕ ਹਿ’ਸਾ ਲਿਆ।ਇਹ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਝ, ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿ’ਚ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਸ਼ਿਵਾਨੀ ਠੱਕਰ, ਐਸੋਸੀਏਟ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ।

ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ, ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਉਂਦਿਆ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਰ’ਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਣ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕ ਸਾਂਝ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਲਿਕ ਇਸ ਸ’ਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਵਰਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁ’ਖੀ ਜੀਵਣ ਵਿ’ਚ ਉਮੀਦ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਰ’ਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੁਲਿਖਾਈ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਟ੍ਰੇਜ਼ਰ ਹੰਟ, ਪਿਕਚਰ ਕੰਪੋਜ਼ੀਸ਼ਨ, ਪੋਇਮ ਰਾਈਟਿੰਗ, ਸਕੈਚਿੰਗ, ਗੈ’ਸ ਦਿ ਸੋਂਗ’ ਗੀਤ, ਲਿਟਰੇਰੀ ਕਵਿਜ਼, ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਯੋਗਤਾ, ਡਾਕੂਮੈਂਟਰੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਮੇਕਿੰਗ ਆਦਿ ਰਚਨਾਤਮਕ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਲੀਅਨ ਸ਼ੈਕਸ਼ਪੀਅਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਟਕ ‘ਹੈਮਲੈਟ’ ਤੇ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਇ’ਕ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ‘ ਹੈਮਲੈਟ ਦਾ ਦਵੰਦ’ ਵੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਬੇਹ’ਦ ਸਰਾਹਿਆ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਡਾ: ਹਰਲੀਨ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਣੁਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਅਸੀਂ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਬਲਿਕ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਰੂਪ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮੂਹਿਕ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਹੋ ਨਿਬੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਡਾ: ਸ਼ਿਵਾਨੀ ਠ’ਕਰ ਨੇ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੁੰਝਲਾਂ ਸੁਲਝਾਉਣ ਵਿ’ਚ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿ’ਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਕਲਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਿਖਾਈ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਲਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਨੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲੇਖਣ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਤਾਨੀਆ ਕੋਹਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਦੇਵਾਂਸ਼ ਤਿਵਾੜੀ ਨੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਚਿੱਤਰ ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਨੀਆ ਕੋਹਲੀ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੌਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹੀ। ਟ੍ਰੇਜ਼ਰ ਹੰਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੇਣੂਕਾ, ਯਸ਼ੂ, ਨਿਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਾਠੀ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਕੈਚਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ਲੀਨ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਇ’ਕ ਅਲ’ਗ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ‘ਗੈ’ਸ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਗ’ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮਨਦੀਪ, ਮੁਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਮਹੇ ਕਪੂਰ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਏਕਮਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿ’ਚ ਡਾਕੂਮੈਂਟਰੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਮੇਕਿੰਗ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਵੀ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਫ੍ਰੈਗਮੈਂਟਡ ਮਾਈਂਡ: ਰੀਡਿੰਗ ਇਨ ਦ ਯੁੱਗ ਆਫ ਐਲਗੋਰਿਦਮ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਫਿਲਮ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਹੁਨਰ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮਨਦੀਪ, ਮੁਕਤੀ, ਨਮਹੇ, ਜਗਪਤ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਅਤੇ ਏਕਮਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸਥਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹੀ।

ਨਾਟਕ ‘ਦਿ ਡਾਇਲਮਾ ਆਫ਼ ਹੈਮਲੇਟ’ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਗਗਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਇਸ ਨਾਟਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆਰ, ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ, ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਪੜਚੋਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।

ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਇਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਤਕਸੀਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ। ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਡਾ.ਕੁਲਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਗਗਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਸੁਖਪਾਲ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਡਾ: ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੰਗੂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਅਨੀਤਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ: ਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਮੁਖੀ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।
