A Five-Day Workshop on English Language and Public Speaking Skills by Department of English Concludes at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala

The Department of English at Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, successfully conducted a five-day workshop on English Language and Public Speaking Skills from September 15th, 2026 to 19th September, 2026. This workshop was specially designed for students across various disciplines, including Commerce, Science, Arts, Medical and Non-medical to refine their skills in English and public speaking.
College principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal congratulated the English Department and the participants and said that English is the language of global communications and networking. He motivated the students to be proficient in English for better job opportunities and mastering life skills.
College registrar Dr. Ajit Kumar appreciated the Workshop and advised the students to include literary texts in the reading routine for a successful career and meaning full life.
The workshop commenced with a session on Interview Skills, facilitated by Prof. Gaganpreet Kaur, who provided valuable insights into interview preparation and conducted a mock interview to demonstrate best practices.
On the second day of the workshop a session was conducted on ‘Group Discussion’ by Dr. Maninder Kaur who demonstrated with live examples the significance and techniques of choosing a topic for group discussion and the communication barriers faced by a group.
The third day of the workshop was dedicated to International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) led by Dr. Vaneet Kaur, Head of the Department. She introduced students to the fundamentals of phonetics and the International Phonetic Alphabet, emphasizing their significance in achieving clarity and correctness in speech.
On the fourth day, Dr. Harpreet Singh discussed the importance of Vocabulary as a communication tool. He elaborated how vocabulary is the main source needed to share thoughts, feelings and information accurately.
On the of fifth day of the workshop, Dr. Harleen Kaur led a session on the Art of Public speaking, inspiring students to hone their presentation skills for effective stage presence.
Dr. Vaneet Kaur, Head of English Department told that total 62 students were registered for this workshop The event aimed to enhance students’ communicative competence and build their confidence in expressing themselves in academic, professional, and social contexts.
To conclude the workshop, an online test was administered to evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired during the sessions. Certificates were awarded to all the participants. Dr (Lt) Rohit Sachdeva, Dean Academics, Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. Ravinder Singh and Prof Anita also attended the workshop.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Harpreet Singh, Assistant professor, Department of English. During the feedback session students Taniya Kohli, Hemant Sankhla and Tanishqa Jaiswal appreciated the workshop and said that this five-day academic workshop proved to be a fruitful experience, enhancing our skills and instilling confidence.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ 15 ਸਤੰਬਰ, 2026 ਤੋਂ 19 ਸਤੰਬਰ, 2026 ਤੱਕ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਪੀਕਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਹੁਨਰ ‘ਤੇ ਪੰਜ-ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦਾ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਹ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ, ਆਰਟ, ਕਾਮਰਸ ਆਦਿ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਹਾਰਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਪੀਕਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਪੱਕ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ: ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਮੌਕਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਹਾਰਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰਾਰ ਡਾ. ਅਜੀਤ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਰੁਟੀਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਨਰ ਸਿੱਖਣ ‘ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਗਗਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਦੇ ਹੁਨਰ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਲਈ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮੌਕ ਇੰਟਰਵਿਊ ਵੀ ਕਰਵਾਈ।
ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦਿਨ ਡਾ: ਮਨਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ‘ਗਰੁੱਪ ਡਿਸਕਸ਼ਨ’ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਲਾਈਵ ਉਦਾਹਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਡਿਸਕਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਚੁਣਨ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਡਿਸਕਸ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਪੇਸ਼ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਦਿਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ: ਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਫੋਨੇਟਿਕ ਵਰਣਮਾਲਾ (ਆਈ.ਪੀ.ਏ.) ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਨੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਧੁਨੀਆਤਮਕ ਵਰਣਮਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਪਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਧਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ (ਆਈ.ਪੀ.ਏ.) ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਚੌਥੇ ਦਿਨ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਸਾਧਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ, ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਰੋਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਵੇਂ ਦਿਨ, ਡਾ. ਹਰਲੀਨ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਆਰਟ ਆਫ਼ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਪੀਕਿੰਗ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਪੀਕਿੰਗ ਲਈ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਢੰਗ-ਤਰਿਕਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ: ਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਲਈ ਕੁੱਲ 62 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ, ਪੇਸ਼ੇਵਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਸੰਦਰਭਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਤਮ -ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।
ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਪਤੀ ਤੇ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਨਰ ਦਾ ਮੁਲਾਂਕਣ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਔਨਲਾਈਨ ਟੈਸਟ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।।ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ।
ਇਸ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ.(ਲੈਫਟੀਨੈਂਟ) ਰੋਹਿਤ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ, ਡੀਨ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ: ਅਨੀਤਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ.ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਫੀਡਬੈਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤਾਨੀਆ ਕੋਹਲੀ, ਹੇਮੰਤ ਸਾਂਖਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਨਿਸ਼ਕਾ ਜੈਸਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪੰਜ-ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪ ਇੱਕ ਵਧੀਆ ਸਿੱਖਿਅਕ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਈ। ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਹੁਨਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
