Date: August 7, 2026
The P.G. Department of Commerce, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala (An Autonomous Institute), organised an insightful awareness session on ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and US-CMA (Certified Management Accountant) to acquaint students with globally recognised professional qualifications and the career opportunities they offer.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Parminder Kaur, Dean and Head, P.G. Department of Commerce, who formally welcomed the Chief Guest, Mr. Nikhil Sharma. Prof. Parminder Kaur encouraged students to take advantage of such sessions to gain exposure to international career opportunities.
Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Principal, highlighted the growing importance of ACCA and US-CMA in today’s global business environment. He explained that ACCA is a UK-based professional qualification that enables students to develop an international perspective and pursue rewarding careers in Europe, the Gulf countries, and several other parts of the world. He also explained the key differences between CA and CMA and emphasised that professional qualifications complement academic learning by enhancing practical knowledge, employability, and global career prospects.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Nikhil Sharma, who explained that ACCA is recognised in more than 180 countries, enabling qualified professionals to work as Chartered Accountants across the globe. He clearly differentiated between academic qualifications and professional qualifications, stating that while academic degrees provide theoretical knowledge, professional qualifications develop industry-oriented skills and offer a significant advantage during placements and interviews.
Mr. Sharma further highlighted that multinational organisations, including the Big Four accounting firms—Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, and EY—actively recruit ACCA professionals because these firms require experts with a sound understanding of international accounting and financial reporting standards.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer round, during which students enthusiastically sought guidance regarding eligibility, exemptions, examination structure, and international career opportunities.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Deepika Singla, who expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Nikhil Sharma for his enlightening session, faculty members, and students for making the programme a grand success.
