National Space Day celebrated

To commemorate National Space Day, the Department of Physics, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, organized an expert lecture for undergraduate science students on “From Sounding Rockets to Gaganyaan.” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Karamjit Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Punjabi University, Patiala, and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 133 students.
Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Principal of the College, appreciated the initiative of the Department of Physics and commended the distinguished academic profile, scholarly accomplishments and contributions to Physics of Dr. Karamjit Singh. He highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in space research and enlightened the students about fascinating references to the mysteries and wonders of the universe found in Indian philosophical and religious traditions.
Dr. Karamjit Singh, an accomplished scientist, gifted academician and engaging science communicator, captivated the audience with his scientific insight and lucid narration. Taking students on a fascinating journey from the Big Bang to the evolution of life on Earth, he explored the formation of elements, stars, the Sun, solar system and Moon, placing these milestones within the vast timeline of cosmic evolution. He then connected this cosmic journey with humanity’s quest to explore the unknown, tracing major milestones in space exploration and India’s remarkable transition from early sounding rocket experiments to MOM, the Chandrayaan missions and Gaganyaan. Highlighting ISRO’s achievements of 135 Indian spacecraft missions and the launch of 434 foreign satellites, he presented an inspiring picture of India’s growing scientific and technological stature in the global space arena.
The programme witnessed the presence of Dr. Kavita, Head, Department of Physics, along with Dr. Pooja Rani, Dr. Palvinder Kaur, Dr. Kanandeep and Dr. Manpreet Kaur. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dean, Physical Sciences and Head, Department of Chemistry; Dr. Varun Jain, Deputy Controller of Examination and Head, Department of Mathematics; Dr. Bhanvi Wadhawan, Head, Department of Zoology; Dr. Santosh Bala, Head, Department of Botany; and Dr. Teena Pathak, Department of Biotechnology.
The programme was efficiently conducted by the student representatives of the college Physics Society, “We Matter” — Sukhjot Singh (B.Sc.-III CS), Aarav Gautam (B.Sc.-III CS) and Santushty (B.Sc.-III CSM), who confidently anchored and managed the proceedings.
The lecture enriched students’ understanding of the universe, space exploration and India’s remarkable space achievements, inspiring greater interest in scientific inquiry and exploration.
22 ਅਗਸਤ, 2026: ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਦਿਵਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ, ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੰਡਰਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ “ਸਾਊਂਡਿੰਗ ਰਾਕੇਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਗਗਨਯਾਨ ਤੱਕ” ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ’ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਡਾ. ਕਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ 133 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਪੂਰਵਕ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਪਹਿਲਕਦਮੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਕਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫਾਈਲ, ਵਿਦਵਤਾਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਦਾਰਸ਼ਨਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਦੇ ਰਹੱਸਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਦਭੁੱਤਤਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰੁਚਿਕਰ ਹਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ।
ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭਾਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ, ਸਮਰੱਥ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਸੰਚਾਰਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਡਾ. ਕਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਲ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਰੋਤਿਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਛਾਪ ਛੱਡੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਗ ਬੈਂਗ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ’ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਰੋਚਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੱਤਾਂ, ਤਾਰਿਆਂ, ਸੂਰਜ, ਸੂਰਜੀ ਮੰਡਲ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦਰਮਾ ਦੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਸਮਾਂ-ਰੇਖਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜਿਗਿਆਸਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਿਆਂ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਪੜਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤੀ ਸਾਊਂਡਿੰਗ ਰਾਕੇਟ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ MOM, ਚੰਦਰਯਾਨ ਮਿਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਗਨਯਾਨ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਰੇਖਾਂਕਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ISRO ਦੀਆਂ 135 ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਯਾਨ ਮਿਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ 434 ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਉਪਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਲਾਂਚ ਕਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਵਧ ਰਹੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾਦਾਇਕ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ. ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸਮੇਤ ਡਾ. ਪੂਜਾ ਰਾਣੀ, ਡਾ. ਪਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਕਾਨਨਦੀਪ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਰਹੇ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਡਾ. ਸੰਜੇ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਡੀਨ, ਫਿਜ਼ੀਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖੀ, ਰਸਾਇਣ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ; ਡਾ. ਵਰੁਣ ਜੈਨ, ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕੰਟਰੋਲਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਖੀ, ਗਣਿਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ; ਡਾ. ਭਾਨਵੀ ਵਾਧਵਨ, ਮੁਖੀ, ਜੰਤੂ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ; ਡਾ. ਸੰਤੋਸ਼ ਬਾਲਾ, ਮੁਖੀ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ; ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਟੀਨਾ ਪਾਠਕ, ਬਾਇਓਟੈਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਗੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਵਧਾਈ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਸੋਸਾਇਟੀ “We Matter” ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧੀ—ਸੁਖਜੋਤ ਸਿੰਘ (B.Sc.-III CS), ਆਰਵ ਗੌਤਮ (B.Sc.-III CS) ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟੀ (B.Sc.-III CSM)—ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਚ ਸੰਭਾਲਦਿਆਂ ਸਮੁੱਚੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਿਆ।
ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ, ਪੁਲਾੜ ਖੋਜ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪੁਲਾੜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਮਝ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਜਿਗਿਆਸਾ, ਖੋਜ ਅਤੇ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਪੜਚੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਰੁਚੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
