Report on Awareness Drive on Household Waste Management under Mission Clean Patiala
The Eco Club of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized an awareness drive on household waste management in collaboration with the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and the District Administration under the “Mission Clean Patiala” initiative launched by PPCB. The drive witnessed active participation from volunteers of NSS, Youth Red Cross, and NCC, along with college students. The awareness campaign was conducted for residents of areas surrounding the college and Budha Dal Public School with the objective of educating the community about proper household waste management practices, waste segregation, and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Principal of the college, motivated the students and appreciated the initiative, emphasizing that cleanliness and responsible waste management are continuous responsibilities essential for building a healthy and sustainable society. He encouraged students and residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices and actively contribute towards maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.
Officials from the PPCB delivered insightful messages during the event. Sh. Dhruv Suri, Senior Fellow, emphasized the need for proper household waste management and creating awareness regarding environmental pollution, while Dr. Gurshagan Kandhola, Senior Fellow, highlighted the role of youth in promoting sustainable practices such as waste segregation at source, composting, and reducing plastic usage. Both officials appreciated the enthusiasm of the students and encouraged them to act as responsible citizens and environmental ambassadors.
Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Supervisor of the college for Mission Clean Patiala, played a key role in coordinating the activity. Dr. Manish Sharma and Dr. Nidhi Rani Gupta, ANO of NCC Girls Unit, remained present with the students during the drive and encouraged them to actively participate in spreading awareness among community members.
The event also received support from Municipal Corporation Patiala. S. Inderjit Singh (Sanitary Inspector), Mr. Manish Daroga, and CF Ms. Mohinderjit Kaur extended external support for the successful conduct of the programme. Motivators Mr. Natish and Mr. Yosaf accompanied the students during the drive and actively assisted in conducting awareness activities among the residents.
Traffic police and other police personnel also provided valuable support by ensuring the smooth movement of traffic and maintaining safety during the awareness campaign. S. Puneet Singh Chahal, DSP, Punjab Police, extended cooperation by deputing traffic personnel, which contributed significantly to the smooth and successful conduct of the drive.
The drive proved to be a meaningful initiative towards promoting awareness regarding household waste management, environmental sustainability, and community responsibility among students and residents of the area.
