Educational visit to Power Grid Substation, Technical Teachers Institute, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited Patiala: 20.02.2026
An educational visit to the local power grid substation was organized by the department of Physics, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala for the students of B.Sc. II (NM/CS/CSM) to provide exposure to power transmission and distribution systems. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical concept studied in the classrooms and their real world applications.
Engineers explained the functioning of power transformers, auto transformers, circuit breakers and isolators, control room panels with SCADA monitoring systems. They described how electricity generated at power plants is transmitted at very high voltages to reduce transmission losses and later stepped down at substations for safe distribution to various places. Students also learned about local management, fault detection and safety protocols strictly followed within the substation premises.
Principal, Dr. Neeraj Goyal appreciated the visit and said that such industrial visits enhance the practical knowledge of the students and strengthen their conceptual understanding and prepare them for future professional challenges. He was grateful for the officials of the Power Grid Substation for the valuable guidance.
Head of the department Dr. Kavita said that the visit enhanced the understanding of power systems and provided valuable industry exposure.
