Laboratory Skill Training Program for Laboratory Attendants of Science Laboratories organised by IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala

A two-day Laboratory Skill Training Program for Laboratory Assistants/Attendants for Science Laboratories was organised by IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala under the aegis of DBT sponsored Star College Scheme on 5th and 6th March, 2025.

Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal said that it is a significant step towards improving laboratory management and scientific support. He emphasised that a well organised Laboratory benefits both students and teachers. Dr. Sanjay Kumar (IQAC Co-ordinator) and Dr. Kuldeep Kumar (DBT Co-ordinator) said that such hands-on training experience will improve understanding of scientific concepts, ensuring better management of chemicals, equipment and experiments.

Lab attendants participated in a specialized training program on Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). The program focused on critical aspects such as storekeeping, record maintenance, biohazard safety, and hands-on practice with biotechnology tools. The training aimed to enhance laboratory efficiency and safety, ensuring proper handling of biohazardous materials and biosafety protocols. Participants were also trained in microscopy slide preparation, herbarium techniques, and museum keeping supporting scientific research and education. They were also trained in preparation of solutions, buffers and calibration of weighing balance and other electronic equipment. This initiative aims to elevate lab management standards, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols in the college.

Dr. Bhanvi Wadhawan, Dr. Santosh Bala, Dr. Kavita, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and Dr. Teena Pathak were the Department-wise Conveners for the event (Zoology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry and Biotechnology and Food technology respectively). The program was well-received by attendees, who expressed confidence in applying their newly acquired skills to maintain an organized and secure laboratory environment.
