Lecture Organized to Observe National Road Safety Month

The Youth Red Cross Unit of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized an awareness lecture to observe National Road Safety Month, which is observed from 1st to 31st January every year by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The theme of National Road Safety Month this year was “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha”, underscoring the importance of safe roads in protecting human lives. The program aimed to promote awareness about road safety rules, traffic signs, and responsible road behaviour among the community.
College Principal, Dr. Neeraj Goyal appreciated the initiative and highlighted that Multani Mal Modi College has a strong tradition of community engagement and social outreach. He emphasized that the institution actively encourages students and faculty to participate in extension activities that address societal issues and contribute to national awareness campaigns. He further stated that such programs not only benefit the community but also help inculcate a sense of civic responsibility and social commitment among students, aligning academic learning with real-world social needs.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Heena Sachdeva, who addressed a gathering from Kartar Colony, Babu Singh Colony, Krishna Colony, Ablowal, Bharat Colony, and Sikligar Basti at Nabha Road, Patiala. Special emphasis was laid on road signs and signals, including mandatory, cautionary, and informatory signs, and their role in ensuring smooth and safe movement on roads. She further highlighted the importance of disciplined driving, use of helmets and seat belts, adherence to speed limits, and pedestrian awareness, stressing that responsible behaviour by all road users is essential for preventing road accidents.
The lecture was successfully organized under the guidance of the Dean, Life Sciences, Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, who emphasized the importance of awareness-based education in bringing positive behavioral change in society. He further stressed that continuous community interaction and sensitization programs are essential for building a safer and more responsible society.
The activity, attended by 51 participants of different age groups, including men and women, aligns with the Youth Red Cross’s role in spreading awareness and promoting safety and well-being in the community. Through such programs, the Red Cross engages with the public to educate them on important social and health-related issues, fostering responsible and informed citizens.
