Multani Mal Modi College Patiala Hosts Special Lecture on Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s Life and Martyrdom

Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, commemorated the 350th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, with a special lecture. The event, organized in lieu of the Indian Government and Punjab Government’s celebrations, aimed to honor Guru Sahib’s supreme sacrifice and legacy. The special lecture was delivered by Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu, a renowned Punjabi author and distinguished professor of Sikh and Religious Studies.
College Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal emphasized Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s unwavering commitment to justice and humanity, stating, “His martyrdom reminds us that courage and compassion can conquer oppression.” He said that the sacrifice of Guru Teg bahadur ji has become more relevant in our present times of religious intolerance and religious conflicts.
Dr. Veerpal Kaur, Head of the Punjabi Department, formally introduced the speaker, Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu and highlighted Dr.Pannu’s contributions to Sikh literature and academia, stating, “His works have inspired generations, and we are honored to have him share his insights on Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s life and teachings.”
Dr. Pannu shared his expertise on Guru Sahib’s life, teachings, and martyrdom. In his statement, Dr. Pannu emphasized, “Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice is a beacon of hope for humanity, reminding us that the pursuit of truth and justice is paramount. His martyrdom is a testament to his unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of the oppressed and promoting religious freedom.” He motivated the students to take guidance from the teaching and wisdom of Guru Teg Bahadur ji and to stand for truth and service of the humanity.
The lecture was followed by a questioning and answering session. The stage was conducted by Dr. Rupinder Singh Dhillon and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Davinder Singh.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਨੌਵੇਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ 350ਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਪੁਰਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਮਾਗਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਲੇਖਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਦੇ ਉੱਘੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ: ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਨੂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ।ਉਹ ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਚੰੜੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਚੇਅਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ: ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਅਟੁੱਟ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਦਿਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦਲੇਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸਹਿਣਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਸੀ ਮਿਲਵਰਤਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ: ਵੀਰਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਡਾ: ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਨੂ ਨਾਲ ਰਸਮੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਡਾ.ਪੰਨੂ ਦੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ‘ਤੇ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਪਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੋਜ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।”
ਡਾ: ਪੰਨੂੰ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ, ਡਾ. ਪੰਨੂ ਨੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਆਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਨ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਦਿਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਸਰਵਉੱਚ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਮਜ਼ਲੂਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ ਹੈ।”ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਤੋਂ ਸੇਧ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਨਵਤਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਡਟਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਵਾਲ-ਜਵਾਬ ਦਾ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵੀ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਚ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਡਾ.ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ।
ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ.ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
