Five-Day Workshop on Traditional Folk Crafts by Post Graduate Department of Fashion Technology

P.G. Department of Fashion Technology, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala successfully organized a 5 days’ Workshop on “Reviving Heritage: A Hands-On Workshop on Traditional Folk Craft Skills” from 19th September,2024 to 23rd September 2024. With focus on traditional folk crafts, the workshop aimed at reviving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of India The workshop was designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students offering them hands-on experience in the traditional crafts of Peedi Bunna (stool weaving) and Pakhi Bunana (handmade fan making). Students not only learned the techniques but also understood the value of sustainable practices and the use of locally sourced materials.

College Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal congratulated the Department for organizing the workshop and the participants for taking part in this learning platform. He emphasized the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern fashion education and encouraged students to apply these timeless techniques in their future projects. The Principal also highlighted the role of the department in fostering creativity while preserving cultural heritage, urging students to continue exploring the intersection of tradition and innovation. Dr. Veenu Jain, Head, Department of Fashion Technology and Convener of the workshop said that these crafts, once an integral part of rural life, provide an opportunity for students to reconnect with indigenous practices while exploring new dimensions in design and creativity.

Around 25 students attended this workshop. Dr. Veenu Jain, Prof. Amanjot Kaur, Prof. Abhineet, Prof. Navdeep and Prof. Rahul from the Department of Fashion Technology worked hard to make this workshop a success.
