An online expert talk on “Contemporary Hindi: Challenges and Opportunities” was organized on the eve of Hindi Day by the Department of Hindi, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala. Dr. Rajendra Kumar Sen, Associate Professor, Punjab Central University, Bathinda was the expert speaker. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the expert speaker and participants, and opined that the national language is the identity of the nation as it is the language that binds the entire nation in the thread of unity. Hindi has fulfilled its obligation well. He said that the second criterion of the national existence of the language is the richness of its literature and its connection with technology and Hindi also meets this criterion. Expert speaker Dr. Rajendra Kumar Sen highlighted the importance of Hindi in the contemporary environment. He described Hindi as the companion of Indian languages and proved that all Indian languages are derived from the same language. He said that due to many historical reasons, Indian languages could not become the official language of the union. But the Constitution of Independent India was granted equal status to all languages and provided opportunities for advancement. At present Hindi has been accepted as the official language of the Union. He said that for the prosperity of Hindi, we must have knowledge of Urdu and regional languages. He highlighted the challenges as well as opportunities to Hindi language. He said that these opportunities can be explored only by adopting a positive attitude. He concluded his address by making the students aware of many employment opportunities in Hindi. Dr. Rupinder Sharma emphasized on the cultural aspect of Hindi and highlighted its historical background and the importance of Hindi Day. At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Shailendra Sidhu proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Rohit Sachdeva provided technical assistance for the webinar. The student and the teachers from different departments actively participated in this event.
